Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
As opening files with large amounts of data takes a long time, instead, we could also chunk the data, such that after some amount of disk space (or a number of correlators) a new file is opened.
